Vacation suggestions? Carribean or Hawaii?

This year to celebrate my husband's graduation from The Citadel, we'd like to take a special vacation.  We Jamaica vacationwill celebrate his hard work and perseverance to be #1 in his electrical engineering class and we will reward my suffering without him for long hours.  We don't have 2 legged children yet (but we have 2 pups), but it's about that time so I'm thinking this will be the last big vacation for a while since we hope to start a family.  We'd like to go somewhere tropical, relaxing, and beautiful.  There has to be plenty to do, excellent dining is a must and they have to make a good mojito J  We were considering the Caribbean or Hawaii but I'm open to suggestions on specifics.  We have been to Utila, Honduras, Montego Bay, Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico.  I definitely would prefer to go someplace new.  We would like to do 7 days and for the right experience, the budget is pretty liberal.  What do you suggest?

Aruba is lovely- lots to do, very nice island, really nice people - food is alright - probably have to work at finding the great restaurants.

Michele, I've been to Barbados a bunch of times, and it's gorgeous.  I love the Carribean side, where the water is calmer and great for snorkeling.  If you like surving, the waves on the Atlantic side are lovely.  We stayed at a really modest place on a fabulous beach - called the Chateau Blanche, but someone told me a hurricane blew through and ate part of the beach.  The food is great.  Sounds like you'll have a blast!

Michelle, Congrats on rewarding yourself with a vacation!  Great idea to fit it in before little ones start running around.  I lived in Hawaii for three years and I would have to recommend it.  My favorite place there was Kauai.  It was very tropical and much less commercial then the other islands.  We did like Maui too - we went snorkeling there and swam with the turtles ans dolphins.  You can also island hop for very little money for just the day.  The pictures really don't do the beauty of the islands justice.  Have fun wherever you go!

Having been to both - living in Hawaii (O'ahu) for 6 years, if I were planning a tropical vacation, I would either be looking at a private island or a vacation at Atlantis. When we went to the Carribean and walked through parts of Atlantis (couldn't get to much of it because we weren't guests there - we were on a cruise), it left me dying to come back.  The beaches, water, weather, etc was amazing.  Their beaches were less crowded than when we were in Hawaii and there seems to be a lot to do.  I'm sure you could also island hop there as well....

Of course, Hawaii was nice (this is the Pali lookout and Bellows beach on O'ahu)

I have to say that I would say Hawaii.  I have quite a few friends that have been in the past year.  They have all raved about how wonderful it was, how much there was to do and how they can't wait to go back.  My one friend even went with her mother in law (and hubby too) and had a fabulous time.  They say the beauty is unparalleled.  Good luck with your choice!

Michelle, either choice is good. You cannot go wrong with either choice. Without any two-legged child, you better try to travel more. I know I am pretty crippled with two two-legged children.

Lisa, Patricai-Aruba and Barbados are places we will definitely put on this list, if not this time, maybe another.

Sheila-My professional mentor told me when I first got in the business that I should set a reward each other. Vacation is always at the top of the list!

Melissa-Thanks for the pics. I'll add Atlantis to the list too!

Debra-Hawaii is at the top of our list right now.  I have heard so many good things about it. Sounds like we can't go wrong there.

Huiting-We are hoping to squeeze in a big trip and a couple smaller ones (Boston, Phoenix, maybe San Deigo).  We love to travel and do it at least twice a year.

Michele, I've been to Hawaii and it was a wonderful place. I would highly recommend it. I went Oahu and got to see most of the island!
I have a friend that raves about the atlantis, which he is at right now. He goes almost every year. He has a timeshare and brings back awesome pictures. I sure which ever one you choice you won't be disappointed.

My vote would be Hawaii but only because it has always been my dream vacation destination.  Have fun wherever you decide to go!

HI MICHELE!  Well of course I would say Hawaii -- but with a liberal budget - why not Spain or Greece - the beaches there are awesome too!  -- Gabrielle

Gabrielle-Spain and Greece are on the list, but we would need 2 weeks to do Europe again.

It's official! We decided on Hawaii.  I booked our flights and hotels yesterday.  We'll be in Maui for 8 days  I'm very excited!!
