What's in a name?

Ever wonder where you get new business? Well, I'm pretty anal about tracking my business, but this one takes the cake.  My buyer's agent called me just about in tears and I thought, what on earth could be wrong? It turns out she was laughing so hard she was in tears.  A man had called her from our website and wanted her to come list his property.  She asked how he heard about us and he said from our website.  Through his think European accent, she was not able to discern how he got to our website or his name for that matter, but he did make it clear why he chose to call our team.  First, her last name was polish as was his.  That was the reason.  When I met with him (since she works solely with buyers) I asked him again how he heard about us and I got the same answer about the website.  So, what made you call us? And he expanded his answer.  He liked Linda's polish last name and he thought I looked asian and he confessed his wife was Philippino (sp?).  Sometimes you just never know how, who or where you'll get your next client.

Michelle - Philippino, or in Spanish, which many of them speak, Filipino (I went with a woman from the Philippines for 6 or 7 years.)

My broker has Greek roots, and has had Greek clients call him for that reason alone!

That's GREAT, you just got to be "out there" to be found!

Thom,

I was also very careful in selecting my business and my website domain name instead of www.MyName.com.  I don't have plans to leave my brokerage, but I have a successful business and if I ever wanted to sell it, it would be easier to sell as Charleston Relocation Experts.com than Michele Reneau.com. It's definitely a very important decision. Best of luck!

Isn't it funny that it comes down to even small things that help clients make a determination of whom people will work with.  Nice post.

Looks like a French name to me! You never know how you get people or how they relate to you. Its much more than just numbers and stats.
